Leadership Descriptions: National Chair

The National Chair is appointed by a discernment process held by the Executive Board and serves a one year term. This term commences at the annual leadership conference after the discernment and continues until the end of the next conference. The National Chair served on the National Team the year prior to becoming Chair. The National Chair need only be a full time student for one semester of the calendar year during which she is National Chair and only votes in the case of a tie.

The National Chair, along with the office staff, is responsible for the day to day running of the organization. He or she is the direct supervisor of the National office staff, but has the ability to appoint this task to someone else if that would provide for smoother operations. Regardless, the National Chair should be in weekly contact with the National office.

The National Chair works closely with the two Campus Ministry Advisors to ensure the daily operations of the organization and to take care of administrative tasks. The National Chair also works with the Campus Ministry Advisors to arrange the quarterly face to face meetings and monthly conference calls of the Executive Board and to create the agendas for those meetings. The National Chair, most often in consultation with the Campus Ministry Advisors, makes administrative decisions and other decisions when it is not practicable to consult the entire team

The Chair is both the motivational leader and spiritual leader of the entire team. It is the responsibility of this person to ensure that members of the team stay on task and in regular communication with each other. The National Chair is also responsible for keeping the Advisory Board and Ex-Officio Board members apprised of what is occurring on a regular basis.

The Chair serves an Ex-Officio member of all committees and is included in all listserve and other communications among and within the various leadership teams of the organization.

The Chair also acts as a voice for the organization, both internally and externally. The Chair is an Ex-Officio member of the Boards of the Catholic Campus Ministry Association (CCMA) and the National Association of Diocesan Directors of Campus Ministry (NADDCM), and as such, attends their meetings and conferences. In the event this is impracticable, she may appoint another member of the Executive Board to attend in her absence.

The Chair may also be called upon to represent the organization at various other conferences and meetings or may choose to delegate these tasks to another member of the Executive Board.

At the Annual Leadership Conference the National Chair is the most vocal and visible leader of the organization and works closely with the Host Team Chair(s) to ensure that everything goes smoothly.
